BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division: Business in India

For the upcoming World Recycling Convention in New Delhi, the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division under the leadership of Division’s President David Chiao (Uni-All Group Ltd., USA) and Senior Vice-President Dhawal Shah (Metco Marketing (India) PVT Ltd.) offers a programme that will put a special emphasis on business in India. The guest presentations will give a general economic overview of the global non-ferrous scrap market with a special focus on lead and aluminium, while presenting current and pertinent issues and challenges of interest to all delegates.

During the plenary session, which is scheduled for Monday, 16 October 2017 at 10.30 in the Taj Diplomatic Enclave Hotel, the three following guest speakers will address the audience:

Mr Deepak Mahendra, former Managing Director of Chassis Brakes International, will be speaking on the current situation and the future of India’s fast growing automotive components industry. Chassis Brakes International is a multinational manufacturer of automotive brakes and brake components and one of the three largest brake system manufacturers in the world. The company has a global footprint with operations in Europe, Asia, South Africa, North and South America and employs 5,200 people in 15 countries. Mr Mahendra looks back at a long career in the automotive industry, spanning over 40 years. He started his professional itinerary with Telco (now Tata Motors) and later joined the Kalyani Group, with more than 27 years in various functions in Bosch Chassis Systems India Ltd., before taking over the management and direction of Chassis Brakes International in 2012. Mr Mahendra holds an IT-B / B Tech (Mechanical) from NT, Mumbai (1976).

The second speaker, Mr Navin Sharma, is Chief Executive Officer at Gravita India Limited, heading the company’s global business, and is a regular speaker at various international lead and battery Conferences. Gravita India Ltd is one of the largest lead producer in India. For the past 25 years, Navin’s assignments have spread from the procurement of raw materials to sales of Non-Ferrous Metals and handling new projects.

He will share with the audience his in-depth knowledge of “India’s dominance in Secondary Lead” and provide a better understanding of the challenges ahead for the overall industry.

The third speaker will focus on secondary aluminium production in India. Mr Akshay Agarwal is Executive Director at Century Metal Recycling (CMR), India’s largest producer of aluminium and zinc die-casting alloys with a combined annual capacity of over 218,000 MT. Since its inception, it has maintained its fast-paced growth by leveraging latest technology and continuous improvement. The group is currently operating through seven manufacturing plants. Mr Agarwal will be giving a presentation on the “Secondary aluminum production in India, and its growing scrap appetite”. As part of the Asian continent, India is one of the fastest growing secondary aluminium markets in the world, with a big growth potential for automobile demand which is likely to boost aluminium consumption.
