More than 550 firefighters, officers, control operatives and support staff function 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year, from each of the respective Fire, Crewing or Retained Stations, and as such generate considerable waste. The 12-month agreement consists of 35 containers located across the various premises with scheduled weekly or fortnightly collections of general and recycled materials.
According to the company one of the factors in the decision to award Mick George Ltd the contract was their ability to provide a sustainable and fully auditable zero to landfill waste management solution from the outset, fulfilling the Fire Services’ commitment to improving its environmental influence. In addition, MGRL’s competitive pricing during the robust tender process, positively stood out from competition, a factor that was particularly apparent in recently achieving enrolment on the Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation (ESPO) 379_17 Waste and Recycling Framework.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for effective firefighting across all areas served by Central Bedfordshire Council, Bedford Borough Council and Luton Borough Council, covering approximately 123,500 hectares, helping to protect a growing population of more than 620,000 inhabitants.
