Sopsa’s first major project in Romania is with Sector 6 of Bucharest, consisting of the installation of more than 700 high-capacity underground waste containers, all locally produced. Nearly half of the units have already been installed. Sopsa operates a production unit in Eli Parks, occupying 6,400 square meters of industrial and office space, following an initial investment of around 2 million €.
Lasso containers replace traditional waste collection systems with ecological and sustainable underground solutions. Their discreet design offers large storage capacity, reducing the need for frequent collection trips and contributing to a cleaner, less polluted environment. By storing waste underground – where the temperature is lower —, these containers help minimize unpleasant odours and unwanted pests and provide a more hygienic solution for densely populated areas.
Romania has the lowest recycling rate in Europe but aims to increase its municipal waste recycling rate from 55% at the end of 2025 to 65% by 2035. Reaching this target will require significant investments in upgrading the country’s waste sorting, collection, and recycling infrastructure.
