The application pertained to the establishment of a recycling plant on an industrial site in the Lillesjö district of Uddevalla Municipality. The facility would have an initial annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres but the long-term plan for the facility is to process up to 60,000 tonnes per year. Enviro expects the application process to take up to one year.
A final decision on establishment of the new plant is dependent on the environmental permit being granted as well as several other factors, such as securing access to end-of-life tyres and agreements covering deliveries of recovered materials. The company’s plan is for the new plant to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2023.
Enviro has developed a patented method for the recycling of end-of-life tyres to recover valuable raw materials such as carbon black, oil and steel. Using recovered carbon black and oil instead of virgin carbon black and fossil fuel has significant advantages for the climate. Since April 2020, the international French tyre manufacturer Michelin has been the single largest shareholder in Enviro, with a holding of 20 percent.
