According to Recoup visitors to the Fair were challenged to land a table tennis ball into a recycling target on a table tennis table which has been made from over 2,000 recycled plastic bottles. The winners were awarded prizes that had been made from recycled plastic. The interaction enabled families to talk to Recoup experts of the value of recycling plastics and the life-cycle of plastic drinks bottles.
Steve Morgan, Technical Manager, at Recoup commented “the Spring Fair was an excellent way to connect with the local community and portray how important a resource recycled plastic is. Through gamification we are able to drive home the message that plastic is an important resource and that through recycling consumers can enable that packaging to have another life.”
Nestlé Waters who, commissioned Recoup to undertake the event have donated the table tennis table, made by Marmax Recycled Plastic Products, to Buxton Community School.
Priya Hamilton, Communications Manager, Nestlé Waters UK, said “Nestlé Waters view this type of event as important to encourage recycling within the local community. We were able to have some great conversations with Buxton residents of all ages at the Fair. Being able to donate the table tennis table made from plastic bottles to a school in Buxton helps to show to the children that recycled plastic drinks bottles can become something new and we hope the school children enjoy using it.”
Councillor Linda Grooby, Mayor of High Peak, said: “Recycling, particularly of plastic waste, is something that has really caught the nation’s imagination so it’s great that Recoup and Nestlé Waters have been able to work together to create something fun and useful from plastic bottles. As the recyclers of the future, I hope it reinforces the need to think about the waste we generate and finding future uses for it amongst the many young people who will enjoy playing table tennis at the school.”
The Headteacher, Craig Yates, of Buxton Community School whilst thanking Nestlé Waters UK for donating the equipment, and High Peak School & Sport Partnership for making the arrangements on the School’s behalf commented: “The school is a strong advocate of recycling, so this fits perfectly with the messages we’re trying to convey to our students. This additional outdoor opportunity will mean anyone can get involved and ‘have-a-go’ hopefully inspiring them to get involved with our lunchtime table tennis club.”
